Sheridan Smith: My endless love for Gavin and Stacy star James Corden

Life really is a beach for Sheridan Smith. She's nabbed the lead in a West End musical, is dating one of our hottest comedians and has a plum role in the sitcom Benidorm.

Not even being away from her boyfriend James Corden, while she is in Spain filming the hit ITV1 series, casts a cloud on her sunny horizon.

Mainly because the chubby Gavin & Stacey star keeps jetting over to see her.

Speaking exclusively to the Mirror, Sheridan, 27, says: "James has just been over. We were in this bar and did Endless Love on the karaoke together. You can't come to Benidorm and not do karaoke.

"Everyone was too bladdered to notice it was us. He's coming back out again this weekend, so that'll be a laugh.

"I'm having a great time out here. It's like Blackpool but hotter."

The couple, who met two years ago, were recently reunited after splitting last spring. But don't expect to hear any wedding bells just yet.

"We're really happy - he's lovely," says Sheridan. "I get all embarrassed talking about him. Over the last two years there have been times we've been together and times we haven't.

"Someone called my agent the other day asking if I was engaged. But I won't be getting married any time soon.

"I also read recently that we'd bought two shih tzu puppies. I've already got two dogs and my mum phoned me up saying: 'What are you playing at?' But it was absolutely not true."

Lincolnshire lass Sheridan is no stranger to our screens, having appeared on The Royle Family, Two Pints of Lager and Jonathan Creek, among others.

She was also nominated for Best Actress in a Musical at both the Whatsonstage.com and Olivier Awards for Little Shop of Horrors, and will play Elle in the stage production of Legally Blonde, due to open in London in January. Not bad for a girl who's never had any formal training.

Sheridan says: "Because I didn't go to drama school I always feel like a bit of a fraud. Every job I get I feel lucky.

"The Royle Family was a fantastic job and I'm so excited about Legally Blonde. I love the film and I love musical theatre. Put them together and it's heaven for me. Rehearsals start in October. I can't wait."

She's only just finished filming series eight of BBC3 comedy Two Pints, and Sheridan admits it could be the last.

At the end of tomorrow's penultimate episode, viewers get to decide via an online vote whether Gaz (Will Mellor) stays with Sheridan's character Janet or goes back to ex-wife Donna. The final episode and result will be aired on May 10. It will be an end of an era for her in more ways than one.

Sheridan says: "We have so much fun making that show. We've grown up together and become like a family. But we're getting too old to be sitting around making rude jokes. And we've all slept with each other now anyway."

Not that her character in Benidorm is much of a departure when it comes to making rude jokes and sleeping around.

Sheridan, who kindly makes time for holidaymakers who stop her for a photo or a chat during breaks in filming, is having a ball playing Brandy - a tarty man-eater.

She says: "I've had a few stag parties shouting: 'Wahey! Giz a rub down!' Mum and dad are praying for the day I play a nun, I always play the gobby, trashy girls.

"Slappers and chavs seem to be my speciality. I hope I'm not getting typecast. But they're more fun to play.

"Benidorm is such a great show. There's nothing else like it. You might think the characters are far-fetched, but then you get out here and it's bang on.

" It's about real people, real relationships and people believe in the acters. It's got heart and it's hilariously funny. When we're filming we're lazing in the sun. It's hardly working, is it?"

When Benidorm wraps, there will be just enough time for her to squeeze in the third series of Gavin & Stacey. She stars as Rudi, the mouthy little sister of Smithy, played by her boyfriend James, 30.

She says: " It is odd that we're a couple playing brother and sister, but doing the fight scenes with James is such a laugh."
